FAQ

What long-term support do you offer?

The license is perpetual – once the kit is downloaded, it can be used forever. It’s a one-time payment with no automatic annual subscription. However, access to updates and support is limited to 1 year.

Is there a discount for renewals?

Yes, a discount is available for renewal. The cost of the renewal depends on when you purchase it, If you purchase the renewal:

  • before the support expires: you get a 50% discount compared to the item price.
  • after the support has expired: you get a 25% discount compared to the item price.

How many licenses do I need?

The number of licenses purchased must correspond to the maximum number of editors working concurrently in a 24-hour period. An editor is somebody contributing changes to the designed screens that use the UI kits. No licenses are required for viewing the designs.

The UI kit got an update. How do I get it?

We send an update email to each customer when a new release is available.
You can access the item on the download page of your admin section. You can find a detailed description of the changes under the “Changelog” tab.

I got the latest update of the kit. What should I do with it?

Unfortunately, Adobe XD does not work like an npm package that we can simply update the dependencies, yet!

Most of the time, we don’t release breaking changes in the updates. We add new content. You can decide if it’s worth or not the effort to integrate the new content into your existing file.

Figma or Sketch?

We aim to keep feature parity between Figma, and Sketch kits. You can benefit from the renewal discount when switching to a different design prototyping tool.

Do you offer discounts to educational and non-profit organizations?

Yes, we offer a 50% discount on all products licensed to students, instructors, non-profit, and charity entities. This special discount cannot be combined with any other type of discount.

To qualify for the discount, you need to send us a document clearly indicating that you are a member of the respective institution. An email from your official account which bears your signature is sufficient in most cases.

For more information on how to qualify for this discount, please contact sales.

    dimension: design-quality

It is really slow to use – warns about the number of layers in components (over 20k) – hangs too many times as a result

    • Olivier Tassinari

Thanks for the feedback. We have fixed it in v4.13.0. The warning about the 20,000 layers was specific to the data table component. It came from a large number of embedded component states. The kit was created on a 2015 MacBook Pro, and its performance was good enough for daily usage, at least in our experience.

    dimension: flexibility

Useful, but I have some scaling issues with many components like text inputs and text area. Some have a fixed width and height, and others are based on the content size. Not very useful for a text input.

Some components have repitition and could use the repeat grid to make it easier to change the spacing and to edit quickly.

Still worth the buy since it saved me a lot of time.

Thanks for the feedback, we have fixed it in v4.13.0

It helps to save some time.
However the responsive design is missing … that would have save me a lot of time 🙁
And there are some mistakes in the components. I’m using it for a few days, but I found some errors already :
1/ Table’s margins are wrong compared to MUI itself,
2/ Colors are not set using transparency, so alternative shades aren’t working if you change the primary or secondary color
3/ Button groups don’t have a selected version in MUI actually.

    • Olivier Tassinari

Thanks for the feedback, we will solve this in the next release.

    dimension: other

It really saves us time using this kit. We use it to mock our design to sell new features. But sometimes there are too many layers which makes adobe XD hang.

    • Olivier Tassinari

Thanks for the feedback, we will look into how to work around the Adobe XD performance limitations.

Great work as always. Has really helped the prototyping UI stage alot easier. Kudos.

    dimension: design-quality

I use this design kit to communication with developers. It helps developer faster apps when the developers know which componenets to use. I wish the kit had more icons. MUI has some many icons to uses but the kit only comes with 85 icons, as a designer we want more options but the developers want less.

    dimension: design-quality

Excellent set of UI components that relly accelerate the mockup process. My only slight issue is that it didnt come as a library, and when exported as such via Adobe Cloud, many components were missing.

    • Greg Abaoag

Thank you for the feedback. If you can share your issue here, we are more than happy to support/assist you.

    dimension: bugs

Useful kit for sure, but for a paid product I would expect more polish. Some of the concerns from older reviews still haven’t been addressed. The kit can still be slow to respond in Adobe XD on a new Macbook Pro. Icons have to come through another plugin or download. Still doesn’t implement transparency correctly, allowing me to just change main theme colors in one place. After changing color pallette, new colors disappeared from assets even though the components retained the new colors. I would love to see an easier way to use and create data grids. Data grid instances are difficult to change.

    • Olivier Tassinari

      Thanks for the feedback.

      > The kit can still be slow to respond in Adobe XD on a new Macbook Pro

This is a limitation of Adobe XD. We recommend migrating to Figma. See https://github.com/mui/mui-design-kits/issues/18

      > allowing me to just change the main theme colors in one place.

Adobe XD doesn’t support advanced color transformations, we can use an alpha color to match the React implementation which uses hard-coded values to fix background overlap issues.

    dimension: documentation-quality

Nice overall, but 3 main complaints: 1) there are numerous areas where a change to a main color/component doesn’t ripple through to other components that reference it, 2) Where are the all the icons? Even saying that the kit includes a fraction of the available icons is an understatement & 3) And this is more of a side-rant… While I realize this kit was made to focus on React components for React developers, it’s disappointing that ya’ll don’t do more to support Angular (especially given that Angular, like MUI, is primarily developed by Google)

    • Olivier Tassinari

      1) This is likely because of the lack of “derivative” design tokens in Adobe XD. Places where the components can’t use the high-level design tokens directly. If you have a specific example that isn’t this Adobe XD limitation, please open a new issue at https://github.com/mui/mui-design-kits. We would be happy to fix it.
      2) We are waiting for more upvotes in https://github.com/mui/mui-design-kits/issues/76 considering that there are simple alternatives.
      3) True, this is a no-goal for us. This design kit aims to match Material UI (created by MUI) as close as possible. It’s itself a React implementation of Material Design (created by Google).
